SIG LAUNCHES LISTSERV
|
|
History of Reading News. Vol.XXI No.2 (1998:Spring) The History of Reading SIG has recently launched its own listserv on the internet. Douglas K. Hartman, the SIG treasurer, is the organizer and manager. Subscription is free to all, whether SIG members or not. Recent discussions on the listserv have focused on what should be essential reading in doctoral seminars on the history of literacy and recent publications that list members might find of interest (such as Samuel Johnson and The Life of Reading), as well as announcements for upcoming meetings (like the 1998 California Antiquarian Book Fair), calls for articles (like Biblio Magazine's "Biblio University" column), and invitations to special journal editions (like the Journal of Literacy Research's special upcoming issue on the History of the National Reading Conference). Requests for help have spanned the gamut from a query about information available on rural literacy in Bavaria during the late 1800s to another for references on the use of mental imagery/concrete objects as strategies and tools for teaching reading and writing. Faculty position announcements are also posted from time to time. For details on the listserv and how to subscribe, see page 6. If there are problems contact Doug at: dkh+@PITT.EDU.
