HISTORY OF READING SIG TO MEET IN ORLANDO

History of Reading News. Vol.XXI No.2 (1998:Spring)

Arlene L. Barry, University of Kansas, organizer of the 1998 History of Reading Special Interest Group, reports the SIG will meet in Orlando on Tuesday, May 5, 2:00-4:45 PM. The location will be announced in the final convention program. Speakers and their topics include Avon Crismore, Indiana University/Purdue University: "Early German Protestantism and Printing: Effects on Literacy Pedagogy Then and Now"; Christine Pawley, College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, Minnesota: "What to Read and How to Read: The Social Infrastructure of Children's Reading, Osage, Iowa, 1870-1900"; Luther B. Clegg, Texas Christian University: "Who, How, and What They Taught: Memories of Teachers of Texas One-Room Schools, 1910-1940"; and L. Karen Clemons, Angelo State University, Texas: "The Historical Role of Reading Organization in Affecting Legislative Decisions About Reading Instruction." The session will be chaired by Albert Tucker, Sul Ross State University, Texas.
