HALL OF FAME INVITES NOMINATIONS

History of Reading News. Vol.XXIII No.1 (1999:Fall)

The Reading Hall of Fame invited the SIG to suggest names for the election of retrospective members to the Hall. Former SIG president Miriam Balmuth, Hunter College of CUNY, coordinated the response. The Executive Com-mittee nominated Noah Webster and William Holmes McGuffey. The SIG, wrote Balmuth in her introduction, “is honored to accept your invitation to submit the names of two historical leaders for election.” She submitted sum-maries of their accomplishments and characterized the two nominees as “figures of towering importance in the field of reading.”
