HISTORY OF READING SIG TO MEET IN SAN FRANCISCO IN MAY

History of Reading News. Vol.XXV No.2 (2002:Spring)

Joseph E. Zimmer, St. Bonaventure University, organizer of the 2002 History of Reading Special Interest Group, reports the SIG will meet in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 1, 2:00-3:30 p.m. The location will be announced in the final IRA convention program. Speakers and their topics include Thomas A. Sticht, El Cajon, CA, “The Rise of the Adult Education and Literacy System of the United States: 1600-2000”; Eleanor English, St. Bonaventure University, “Sport Literature and the Young Reader in the 19th Century: Movement, Merriment, and Morals”; Richard Robinson, University of Missouri, Columbia: “Classics in Reading Education”; Sarah Ann Wadsworth, Carleton College, “Reading the Marketplace: The Culture of the Book in Nineteenth-Century America.” The session will be chaired by Nigel Hall, Manchester Metropolitan University, England.
